Duke Health Integrated Practice comprises more than 110 primary and specialty outpatient clinics, extending the reach of the Duke Health mission across the state of North Carolina. This role is for a Clinical Nurse II in our Dawson Hall clinic located in Chapel Hill, NC, to be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients.

Requirements

  • Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.
  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level.
  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
  • BLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, provide and document professional nursing care in ambulatory settings, utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures, under the supervision of the nurse manager.
  • Able to coordinate “nurse only” visits for biologics and other injectables as well as coordination of “return”, “spot check”, “urgent” and any other type of visit.
  • Daily resource for patients and the unlicensed care providers to triage and assess patient needs and requests that are received via telephone or electronic communication in to the clinic.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers while monitoring clinic flow and identifying measures to facilitate the movement of patients through all aspects of their visit. Provides assistance for support staff when needed during procedures, suture removals, and completion of assigned duties
  • Inform Nurse Manager of periods of prolonged delay.
  • Maintains compliance with legal, JCAHO, Infection Control, and professional standards.
  • Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
  • Performs and documents monthly medication inspection to remove any expired medications from inventory.
  • Anticipates situations that may need action and acts accordingly, notifying the Nurse Manager/HCA.
  • Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
