About The Position

The Clinical Nurse I – MedSurg role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act to assigned patients on Medical/Surgical units. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
  • Current BLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
  • ACLS upon hire for Pain Management Center.
  • BSN or that a BSN program is started within one year of hire date and BSN degree is attained within two years of the starting the BSN program.
  • ADN required for Therapeutic Apheresis.
  • One year critical care, dialysis, or donor/patient apheresis experience for Therapeutic Apheresis.
  • Moderate Sedation experience required for GI Lab.
  • Solid computer technical skills required, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and additional Organizational systems (Affinity, SMS, and PACS) for GI Lab.
  • One (1) year of home health care experience preferred for Home Health.
  • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order for Home Health and Hospice.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience, at least one of which is in the area of public health, home care, or hospice nursing is preferred for Hospice.
  • At least 2 years of experience in addiction/behavioral health environment preferred for Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program.
  • Oncology infusion experience is required for Oncology infusion.
  • ACLS certification is required for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray.
  • PALS certification is required within 6 months of hire/transfer to department for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray.
  • NIHSS certification is required within 30 days of hire/transfer to department for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray.
  • ACLS certification is required for HHI Main X-Ray.
  • ACLS Certification is required for Hoag Imaging Center Newport Beach.
  • ACLS required for Surgical – 6 West.
  • ACLS required for Telemetry.
  • ACLS; NIHSS certification required within 365 days of hire as designated by Manager for Irvine Telemetry.
  • ACLS required within 60 days of hire for Molecular Therapy.
  • ACLS required within 60 days of hire for Radiation Oncology.
  • ACLS upon hire for Irvine Medical – Oncology.
  • ONS- Oncology Nursing Society) required within 24 months of hire for Irvine Medical – Oncology.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Neurology and Neurosurgery telemetry experience preferred, including but not limited to: stroke, seizure, brain tumor/surgery, Parkinson’s, spinal surgery for Advanced Brain and Spine Unit.
  • Experience in Functional Improvement Measure (FIM) preferred for Acute Rehab.
  • Previous experience in rehab nursing preferred for Acute Rehab.
  • Successful completion of Sub-Intensive, Intermediate, Progressive or Critical Care course/experience preferred for Cardiac Telemetry.
  • Previous telemetry experience preferred including but not limited to PACU, ED, ICU/CCU, GI Lab units for Gamma Knife.
  • Successful completion of ECG test required for Gamma Knife.
  • Previous GI nursing experience preferred for GI Lab.
  • Medical/Surgical, Gyn/Urology experience preferred for Gyn/Urol.
  • Experience in cardiac telemetry required for Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI).
  • Successful completion of ECG test required for Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI).
  • Orthopedic nursing experience preferred for Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI).
  • BSN preferred for Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI).
  • Two years clinical/management experience preferred for Ortho Surgery Center.
  • Self-motivated and directed, must have a positive attitude toward individuals in substance abuse treatment for Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program.
  • For Non-Oncology Infusion, no experience is required for Outpatient Treatment Centers Infusion.
  • Pain Management Procedural/Clinic experience, Interventional Radiology Procedural experience, Vascular access experience, Spine Ortho/neuro specialty experience, OR Circulating experience preferred for Pain Management Center.
  • Oncology experience preferred for Radiation Oncology.
  • Interventional Radiology experience preferred for NB Interventional Radiology, CT, Magnetic Resonance, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray.
  • HHI Main X-Ray: Interventional Radiology and/or vascular access experience preferred.
  • Ultrasound guided vascular access experience is preferred for PICC Services.
  • Experience in SUB-ICU preferred for Surgical – 6 West.
  • Experience on Surgical-6 West unit preferred for Surgical – 6 West.
  • Previous Telemetry experience preferred for Telemetry.
  • BSN preferred for Therapeutic Apheresis.
  • One year donor/patient apheresis experience preferred for Therapeutic Apheresis.
  • Certified Rehabilitation Nurse (CRRN) and NIHSS certification for Acute Rehab.
  • CNRN &/or SCRN for Advanced Brain and Spine Unit.
  • PCCN for Cardiac Telemetry.
  • PCCN for Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI).
  • PALS certification is preferred for Gamma Knife.
  • Chemotherapy/biotherapy certification preferred for Outpatient Treatment Centers Infusion (Non-Oncology).
  • Certified Addictions Registered Nurse Specialty Certification CARN for Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program.
  • Certified Addictions Registered Nurse Specialty Certification CARN for Chemical Dependency In-Patient Detox.
  • CRN (Certified Radiology Nurse) is preferred for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray.
  • ACLS Certification for Therapeutic Apheresis.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts Nursing assessments of patients, screening for needs and other health-related concerns.
  • Performs patient assessments including vital signs and monitoring for patient needs.
  • Work closely with MD/NP and therapists as a vital part of the treatment team.
  • Coordinate care with outside providers.
  • Monitor lab results and refer to physician within protocols and guidelines.
  • Identify the need for crisis intervention and clinical nursing practice including personal care services, monitoring and reporting findings, medication self-administration, client teaching and health education, emergency intervention and other nursing services within professional scope of practice.
  • Performs therapeutic apheresis procedures and mononuclear cell (MNC) collection processes in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care.
  • Maintains professional accountability in maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies as they apply while providing the highest quality of therapeutic apheresis services to the community.
  • May be called as a resource on a variety of central access catheters related issues.
  • Performs the following apheresis procedures and give rationale for their use: Therapeutic Plasma Exchange, Therapeutic Leukopheresis, Mononuclear Cell Collection.
  • Performs venipuncture and peripheral/central venous access care, including: Arterio-venous graft/fistula, subclavian, internal jugular and femoral central venous catheters.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and quality control on all apheresis and procedure related equipment and assure documentation meets cGMP requirements.
