About The Position

The Clinical Nurse I – MedSurg role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act to assigned patients on Medical/Surgical units. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Performs other duties as assigned. Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program: Conducts Nursing assessments of patients, screening for needs and other health-related concerns. Performs patient assessments including vital signs and monitoring for patient needs. Work closely with MD/NP and therapists as a vital part of the treatment team. Coordinate care with outside providers. Monitor lab results and refer to physician within protocols and guidelines. Identify the need for crisis intervention and clinical nursing practice including personal care services, monitoring and reporting findings, medication self-administration, client teaching and health education, emergency intervention and other nursing services within professional scope of practice. Therapeutic Apheresis: Performs therapeutic apheresis procedures and mononuclear cell (MNC) collection processes in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. Collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. Maintains professional accountability in maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies as they apply while providing the highest quality of therapeutic apheresis services to the community. May be called as a resource on a variety of central access catheters related issues. Performs the following apheresis procedures and give rationale for their use: Therapeutic Plasma Exchange, Therapeutic Leukopheresis, Mononuclear Cell Collection. Performs venipuncture and peripheral/central venous access care, including: Arterio-venous graft/fistula, subclavian, internal jugular and femoral central venous catheters. Conduct routine maintenance and quality control on all apheresis and procedure related equipment and assure documentation meets cGMP requirements.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
  • Current BLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
  • NIHSS and ACLS required upon hire for Advanced Brain and Spine Unit.
  • ACLS required upon hire for Cardiac Telemetry.
  • Completes annual stroke education per Hoag Hospital guidelines for Cardiac Telemetry.
  • ACLS required upon hire for Gamma Knife.
  • ACLS for GI Lab.
  • Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy Provider Card required to administer chemotherapy on hire or within year of hire as designated by manager for Gynecology/Urology.
  • BLS and ACLS required upon hire for Heart Valve Clinic and CVOR.
  • Completes annual stroke education per Hoag Hospital guidelines for Heart Valve Clinic and CVOR.
  • ACLS for Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI).
  • ACLS and BLS for HHC ISC OP Surgery.
  • ACLS and BLS for Nursing Staffing.
  • Oncology Infusion the Chemotherapy/biotherapy certification required. ONSONCC. This certification is not required for Non-Oncology infusion for Outpatient Treatment Centers Infusion.
  • ACLS upon hire for Oncology.
  • Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy Provider Card required to administer chemotherapy for Oncology.
  • BLS upon hire for 1206d Oncology Specialty Clinic.
  • ACLS upon hire for Pain Management Center.
  • ACLS upon hire for Pulmonary/Sepsis.
  • ACLS certification is required for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray.
  • PALS certification is required within 6 months of hire/transfer to department for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray.
  • NIHSS certification is required within 30 days of hire/transfer to department for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray.
  • Completes annual stroke education per organization requirements for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray.
  • ACLS certification is required for PICC Services.
  • ACLS certification is required for HHI Main X-Ray.
  • ACLS Certification is required for Hoag Imaging Center Newport Beach.
  • ACLS required for Surgical (5 West and 6 West).
  • ACLS required for Telemetry.
  • ACLS; NIHSS certification required within 365 days of hire as designated by Manager for Irvine Telemetry.
  • ACLS required within 60 days of hire for Molecular Therapy.
  • ACLS required within 60 days of hire for Radiation Oncology.
  • ACLS upon hire, ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course (ONS- Oncology Nursing Society) required within 24 months of hire for Irvine Medical – Oncology.
  • ACLS upon hire for Irvine Med Surg – Digestive.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Fulfills mandatory stroke education requirements per certification for Advanced Brain and Spine Unit.
  • Neurology and Neurosurgery telemetry experience preferred, including but not limited to: stroke, seizure, brain tumor/surgery, Parkinson’s, spinal surgery for Advanced Brain and Spine Unit.
  • Experience in Functional Improvement Measure (FIM) preferred for Acute Rehab.
  • Previous experience in rehab nursing preferred for Acute Rehab.
  • Successful completion of Sub-Intensive, Intermediate, Progressive or Critical Care course/experience preferred for Cardiac Telemetry.
  • Successful completion of ECG test required for Cardiac Telemetry.
  • Previous telemetry experience preferred including but not limited to PACU, ED, ICU/CCU, GI Lab units for Gamma Knife.
  • Successful completion of ECG test required for Gamma Knife.
  • Moderate Sedation experience required for GI Lab.
  • Previous GI nursing experience preferred for GI Lab.
  • Solid computer technical skills required, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and additional Organizational systems (Affinity, SMS, and PACS) for GI Lab.
  • Medical/Surgical, Gyn/Urology experience preferred for Gyn/Urol.
  • Experience in cardiac telemetry required for Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI).
  • Successful completion of ECG test required for Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI).
  • Orthopedic nursing experience preferred for Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI).
  • BSN preferred for Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI).
  • One (1) year of home health care experience preferred for Home Health.
  • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order for Home Health.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience, at least one of which is in the area of public health, home care, or hospice nursing is preferred for Hospice.
