About The Position

Under the direction of the Nurse Coordinator, the Clinical Nurse I is a responsible and accountable professional care worker for providing safe, effective, and individualized nursing care for patients, and supportive care to significant others. This role involves the application of the nursing process and the utilization of technical skills for patient care delivery. These activities require nursing judgment based on the application of scientific principles of nursing, problem-solving, and teaching/learning.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois
  • One (1) year of critical care nursing experience in an acute care setting or 6 months of interventional radiology nursing experience
  • Must possess a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must possess an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Must meet the Physical and Environmental Demands to work as a Radiology Nurse, including wearing a lead apron weighing approximately 15lbs., pushing and pulling greater than 20lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a college or university
  • Certification in clinical area desirable.
  • One (1) year experience in Trauma/ /ER nursing experience
  • Must possess a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, plans, and cares for the total needs of patients, considering age-specific needs.
  • Assists in radiologic procedures, including monitoring patients before, during, and after.
  • Notifies appropriate physician and nursing staff of any changes in patient's condition.
  • Performs initial and ongoing assessment/data collection, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning factors.
  • Formulates an individualized plan of care based on assessed needs, desired outcomes, and age-related requirements.
  • Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and safe manner based on established patient and nursing practice standards.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of care and revises interventions as appropriate.
  • Documents all nursing assessments, treatments, medications, tolerance to procedures, changes in condition, interventions, and patient outcomes.
  • Makes appropriate and timely decisions in crisis or emergency situations.
  • Floats within the Radiology department to provide nursing care as needed.
  • Performs and/or directs cardio-pulmonary resuscitation activities.
  • Safely operates equipment necessary for providing patient care.
  • Assists with necessary patient preparation as guided by Radiology policies and procedures.
  • Works and communicates effectively with a variety of individuals and functions as a member of the health care team.
  • Provides general direction, guidance, and coordination of patient care given by other levels of nursing staff.
  • Applies knowledge of standard operating policies and procedures.
  • Applies principles of BSIS Infection Control and Safety.
  • Demonstrates awareness of patient/family rights and ethical/legal issues.
  • Actively participates in staff orientation and staff development activities for the unit.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for professional practice, growth, and development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
