About The Position

The Clinical Nurse Educator - Emergency Department - Days position is responsible for facilitating orientation, onboarding, and transition-to-practice programs. This role involves developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing education and competency programs, designing educational programs using evidence-based teaching strategies and technology, and organizing skills days, in-services, and educational sessions. The educator will also maintain competency records, attendance, and educational documentation. Additionally, the role requires providing direct patient care while maintaining clinical expertise, serving as a clinical resource, and offering bedside "just-in-time" education. The educator will support staff by maintaining a visible presence in the clinical environment, precepting newly hired registered nurses, and mentoring and coaching nursing staff. They will also evaluate and support preceptors, promote lifelong learning, specialty certification, and evidence-based practice, and guide nurses participating in Transition-to-Practice programs and evidence-based projects. This position involves partnering with Clinical Nurse Managers and Clinical Coordinators to assess educational needs, supporting quality improvement, patient safety, and patient experience initiatives, and participating in shared governance and unit council development. Collaboration across service lines to standardize educational activities and fostering interdisciplinary communication and teamwork are also key aspects of this role. Additional responsibilities include travel between NorthShore hospitals as needed, assisting with Safe Patient Handling training, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing required
  • Board certification in clinical specialty or Nursing Professional Development within one year of board eligibility
  • 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience
  • Completion of a preceptor program
  • Previous experience serving as a preceptor
  • Experience as a unit champion and/or participation in shared governance councils
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and computer skills
