The Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC) is a front-line care provider, coordinator, and leader for the healthcare team. Applying the nursing process at the point of care, the CNC assesses, diagnoses, intervenes, and evaluates the unit as a whole to guide systematic quality and safety improvements. The role focuses on effective interdisciplinary communication and coordination, helping patients and families navigate the healthcare system, and advocating for patients, families, and healthcare providers. The CNC is accountable for improving care delivery and maximizing safe, high-quality, evidence-based care within a complex healthcare setting. The CNC practices in accordance with specialty standards, practice guidelines, and protocols for the assigned unit. The Registered Nurse may provide direct oversight to Graduate Nurses, LPNs, Technical Partners, ALS Technicians, Nurse Externs, and Unit Clerks. This includes conducting the initial comprehensive assessment, interpreting it to initiate the interprofessional plan of care, and supervising delegated duties within the care team members’ scope and capabilities. The role has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but may serve as a coach and mentor. Work schedules are based on operational needs and may involve rotating shifts, standby, and on-call duties. Local travel between system locations may be expected.
