About The Position

The Clinical Nurse B-Cancer Center specializes in caring for patients eighteen years of age or older with suspected or confirmed malignancies or a hematologic disorder. Provides patient-centered care to outpatients in the clinic and/or infusion center. Performs the nursing process with minimal supervision. Administers complex and advanced chemotherapy, biological agents and medications utilized in approved research studies and in accordance with physician orders. Facilitates the empowerment of the nursing profession and embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Functions in a skills mix environment and may directly supervise and delegate tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff. May be required to serve in shift coordinator role upon completion of shift coordinator orientation. Demonstrates flexibility and willingly floats to other areas as assigned. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required (in progress acceptable).
  • Minimum one year of nursing experience required.
  • Demonstrates basic competencies in clinical oncology nursing.
  • Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in oncology and treatment modalities.
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required.
  • Exhibit professional behavior at all times.
  • Able to speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality.
  • Able to use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program.
  • Able to troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment.
  • Able to perform technical patient care activities.
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others.

  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
  • Chemotherapy certification required and may be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Other certification(s) as required in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care and may be obtained during orientation process.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one year of oncology nursing preferred.
