About The Position

The Department of Neuropsychology at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital is pleased to announce a position opening for a full-time clinical neuropsychologist to work within the Ayer Neuroscience Institute Epilepsy Center (Harford and New Britain, CT). This position is a collaboration between the Institute of Living and Hartford HealthCare’s Ayer Neuroscience Institute and reflects our commitment to embedding behavioral health services in medical settings throughout the system. The clinical neuropsychologist will join our growing team of dedicated and skilled neuropsychologists embedded in other neuroscience divisions. The epilepsy neuropsychologist will have office locations in Hartford CT (3 days per week) and New Britain CT (2 days per week). The Epilepsy Center provides comprehensive care by a dedicated team and is accredited as level 4 by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. There are 8 epileptologists, 3 advanced practice providers, 3 neurosurgeons, and multiple other valuable members of our multidisciplinary team. Program Summary The Department of Neuropsychology enjoys active involvement in the hospital’s rich history of training and provision of exceptional care. Departmental neuropsychologists participate in clinical care, research, training, and multidisciplinary collaboration at multiple sites within Hartford HealthCare, including the Chase Family Movement Disorders Center, Memory Care Center, Institute of Living (Inpatient Psychiatry and General Neuropsychology Outpatient Clinic), and Hartford Hospital (medical inpatient and inpatient rehabilitation). Opportunities to participate in teaching activities and supervision of students at all levels of training exist. The Institute of Living has a deep commitment to research and education, as well as clinical care, and there are many opportunities to get involved in hospital-wide activities and initiatives. The Institute of Living also has a strong commitment to multi-disciplinary collaboration and continuing education, including weekly Psychiatry Grand Rounds, Neurology Grand Rounds, and numerous other educational opportunities, including departmental seminars for staff neuropsychologists and trainees.

Requirements

  • Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology (PhD.) or Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from an APA-accredited institution
  • Completion of a two-year clinical neuropsychology fellowship that conforms to the Houston Conference Guidelines and/or be eligible for ABPP in clinical neuropsychology
  • Specialized training in epilepsy/seizure disorders
  • Licensed to practice psychology in the state of Connecticut
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team

Nice To Haves

  • fMRI interpretation training is preferred, but not required
  • Interest in graduate and post-graduate education is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Standard evaluations for cognitive deficits, anxiety, depression, attentional disorders and other factors impacting the daily performance of people with epilepsy
  • Presurgical evaluations focused on neuro-anatomical correlation and advising the safety of specific neurosurgical treatment options during our weekly epilepsy surgery conference
  • Complex procedures including Wada tests, functional testing and cortical mapping, and awake craniotomies, in close partnership with neurodiagnostic, neuro-oncology and neurosurgery colleagues
  • There may be opportunities to work with our radiology team to oversee fMRI protocols and perform interpretation.
  • Close collaboration with the social worker and psychiatrist embedded within the epilepsy program.
  • Involvement in our Clinical Council, contributing to the advancement of the care we provide all our patients
  • Participation in neuropsychology departmental staff meetings.
  • Participation in teaching activities (i.e., seminars) and, if desired, supervision of students at all levels of training.
