About The Position

The Operating Room Clinical Lead Orthopedic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, is a leadership role within the Zale Lipshy Pavilion. This position offers a $10,000 sign-on bonus and operates on a Monday-Friday, 07:30 to 16:00 shift. Requirements

  • Graduate of an NLN approved nursing program
  • 3 years experience as a Registered Nurse (Surgery, Day Surgery, PACU, GI Lab experience, as appropriate for department).
  • Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) license
  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (ACLS) course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required for GI Lab, PACU
  • Moderate sedation required for GI Lab

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care, handling procedures and tasks specific to the unit's patient population.
  • Serves as a role model to other staff when providing direct patient care.
  • Makes daily patient rounds and performs random chart audits.
  • Utilizes opportunities to teach and mentor other nursing personnel.
  • Works effectively with Faculty to understand service-based needs and assist with onboarding new Faculty in the operative environment.
  • Helps ensure staff meet established productivity targets.
  • Reviews and revises staffing/nursing assignments as necessary to meet patient needs on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • Demonstrates effective problem-solving abilities and actively participates in the identification and resolution of physician, patient, and/or family complaints.
  • Reports complaints and interventions to the Clinical Nurse Manager in a timely manner.
  • Reports unresolved or escalating situations to the Nurse Manager immediately.
  • Follows up on staff issues and ensures feedback to staff members.
  • Engages in effective problem-solving with other departments as necessary.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to provide coverage during off shifts when staffing crises/shortages occur.
  • Serves as a service line expert.
  • Ensures service-based equipment and supply needs are met by working with appropriate support departments.
  • Assists in identifying and planning for future equipment, instrumentation, and supply needs.
  • Generates or supervises the generation of event reports during assigned duty hours and investigates facts as able.
  • Facilitates timely receipt of event reports and follow-up by the Clinical Nurse Manager.
  • Notifies Nurse Manager/Risk Manager immediately of high-risk situations.
  • Actively participates in routine and special patient care conferences.
  • Promotes professional growth of nursing personnel by providing opportunities for active participation in unit-based activities, patient care/unit decisions, or hospital committees.
  • Provides input for peer annual performance reviews and orientation evaluation of nursing personnel assigned to the unit.
  • Assists in planning and coordination of staff orientation to core service line, including equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with scheduling and daily assignments as needed.
  • Assumes delegated responsibility for inventory control of equipment and supplies.
  • Facilitates timely return of specialty equipment.
  • Assists with staff meetings, special projects, and in the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement activities.
  • Participates on hospital work groups as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
