About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist performs a wide range of routine and complex laboratory procedures using established protocols within the General Laboratory. This role supports accurate and timely testing to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient conditions. The technologist exercises independent judgment, follows regulatory standards, and maintains high-quality testing practices. This position reports to the Supervisor of the General Laboratory.

Requirements

  • Must meet all state and federal requirements for a Clinical Laboratory Technologist and demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or Medical Technology from a NYSDOE‑approved program OR Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or physical sciences plus an advanced certificate in clinical laboratory technology from an accredited or NYSDOE‑recognized program.
  • New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or documented proof of application submitted.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain work areas in compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards; ensure readiness for internal or external inspections.
  • Follow laboratory policies and procedures in all phases of testing including specimen handling, analysis, quality control, instrument calibration, maintenance, and documentation.
  • Complete required annual education, maintain Occupational Medicine compliance (e.g., PPD, influenza vaccine), and uphold competency for all assigned testing.
  • Demonstrate professional, courteous communication with patients, clinicians, coworkers, and visitors; provide age‑appropriate and respectful patient interaction.
  • Adhere to all Arnot Health policies including Corporate Compliance, Safety, Infection Prevention, and Human Resources.
  • Identify issues that may affect test performance or reporting and take corrective action or promptly notify supervisory personnel; document all corrective steps taken.
  • Perform and document quality control, instrument checks, and reagent verification.
  • Complete preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting on laboratory instruments.
  • Process and report test results accurately and according to protocol.
  • Utilize the Laboratory Information System to track samples, label specimens, release results, and manage pending logs.
  • Review test results manually as needed and document all findings appropriately.
  • Participate in continuing education, staff meetings, and required training sessions.
  • Use downtime productively and support workflow needs.
  • Work a schedule that may include rotating weekends and holidays.
  • Perform calibrations, linearity studies, instrument correlations, and equipment checks (e.g., pipettes, thermometers).
  • Assist with supply inventory and ordering needs.
  • Support the training of new staff and students.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
