About The Position

LabCorp is seeking a PRN Clinical Lab Technologist to join their microbiology team at Ascension St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN. This is a Per Diem/PRN position, meaning hours will be "as needed" with varying start and end times. Availability to cover weekends between 5:30 AM - 4:00 PM is required. The role involves performing vital components of clinical lab science in a high-volume, production-based environment. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
  • 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR an MLS degree
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers
  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year or more clinical microbiology MLS experience
  • 1 year or more plate reading and gram staining experience
  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
