About The Position

LabCorp is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at Ascension Columbia St. Mary's Hospital - Ozaukee Campus in Mequon, WI. This role is on the 3rd Shift and involves determining the acceptability of specimens for testing, performing routine and complex technical procedures, and monitoring/troubleshooting instrumentation. The technologist will make technical decisions, prepare and evaluate reagents, report test results, perform preventive maintenance and quality control, manage testing bench supplies, and assist with specimen processing. Maintaining a safe work environment and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
  • 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR an MLS degree
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Proficient with computers
  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year or more of hands-on experience in a clinical core laboratory, specializing in hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis testing
  • 1 year or more of hands-on experience in clinical blood bank testing
  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
