About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Technologist Trainee to join our Molecular Diagnostics team in Westborough, MA. This role involves working with patient samples for extractions, performing automated and manual DNA extractions, and monitoring/operating instrumentation. The position requires maintaining documentation, troubleshooting assays, contributing to process improvement, coordinating work, and participating in team workflow management. Additionally, responsibilities include performing maintenance, managing supplies, assisting with specimen processing, and ensuring a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Responsibilities

  • Receive patient samples into the lab for extractions
  • Perform automated and manual DNA extractions from patient samples
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Maintain internal documentation for all steps of the processes as outlined in SOPs
  • Troubleshoot assays and reagent qualification issues
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvement efforts
  • Coordinate work assignments and be able to prioritize independently
  • Participate in a team approach to workflow management of the lab
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
