About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Technologist Trainee to join its team at UT Medical in Knoxville, Tennessee. The role performs clinical laboratory testing, evaluates specimens, operates and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation, and reports accurate, timely results to support patient care. New graduates are welcome, and full training is provided. The scheduled hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with rotating weekends.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
• Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may satisfy the education requirement.
• Understanding of laboratory operations, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Computer proficiency and familiarity with laboratory information systems.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
• Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test.
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.

Nice To Haves

• Three months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• ASCP or AMT certification.

Responsibilities

• Determine whether specimens are acceptable for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
• Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
• Assist with specimen processing when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
