About The Position

NYU Langone Health is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technologist specializing in Flow Cytometry to join their team. This role involves performing routine molecular testing, including sample processing, nucleic acid extractions, PCR assay procedures, and Next Generation Sequencing. The successful candidate will also be responsible for quality control, instrument maintenance, and may participate in new assay validation under the direction of supervisors.

Requirements

  • NYSDOH Licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education or Bachelor's Degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university or education requirement grandfathered by the NYSOP.
  • One year experience in a clinical laboratory (completion of an internship at a qualified institution is acceptable).
  • Effective Interpersonal Communication skills required.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters or PhD in Cell or Molecular Biology.
  • 2+ years of experience in Molecular Diagnostics including 2+ years of experience in Next Generation Sequencing

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for compliance with environmental services, JCAHO, NYS DOH, and CAP regulations
  • Retrieves clinical information using the PowerPath system.
  • Processes patient specimens as specified for individual molecular tests using standard procedure manual.
  • Performs purification and extraction of nucleic acids using automated or manual methods.
  • Performs quantification of nucleic acid and recording the data.
  • Performs PCR, electrophoresis and NGS using standard precautions as described in the molecular SOPM.
  • Participates in quality control procedures (reagents, machines) as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assures daily quality of results, communicates issues to lead tech or supervisor.
  • Ensures necessary reagents and supplies are available for the performance of clinical testing.
  • Notifies lead tech or supervisor when ordering is necessary for timely receipt of new reagents and supplies.
  • Responsible for the programming, maintenance, validation, and troubleshooting of all equipment in molecular pathology as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for chemical, biohazard and radioactive materials handling, storage and disposal.
  • Performs and oversees tests with diagnostic purposes.
