About The Position

LabCorp is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist Trainee to join our Microarray team in RTP, NC. This role involves performing routine procedures in a clinical laboratory setting, including tissue culture, harvesting, slide making, banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing. The technologist will also be responsible for determining specimen acceptability, operating and troubleshooting instrumentation, preparing and testing new reagents, reporting test results, performing quality control, and maintaining a safe work environment. This position offers full training for new graduates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine procedures including tissue culture, harvesting, slide making and banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing, probing, and scoping.
  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
