About The Position

Responsible for performing routine laboratory testing to support PDCHC patient care. Collects, processes, and analyzes samples including blood and other body fluids, ensuring timely and reliable results. The position requires strict quality control standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements (e.g. CLIA, OSHA, etc.).

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or related field required
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required or must be earned within six (6) months of hire.
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory testing offered by the health center (e.g., glucose, HbA1c, urinalysis dipstick, pregnancy, rapid strep/flu/COVID, FIT/FOBT, and other waived tests as applicable).
  • Verifies patient identification, test orders, specimen acceptability, and collection requirements; troubleshoots and resolves pre-analytical issues (e.g., labeling, insufficient volume, etc.) and documents corrective actions.
  • Operates, calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment; performs and documents daily/weekly/monthly maintenance.
  • Reviews, interprets, and verifies test results for accuracy; recognizes and escalates critical/panic values per policy and documents required notifications.
  • Ensures proper specimen processing, storage, packaging, and transport; prepares specimens for send-out testing, including reference lab requisitions and shipping/chain-of-custody requirements.
  • Accurately documents testing and related activities in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and/or Electronic Health Record (EHR); protects patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work area supporting infection prevention and safety programs.
  • Assists with inventory of supplies and reagents; monitors expiration dates/lot changes and assist with orders as needed.
  • Conducts equipment controls and values inspections (e.g. calibration checks, temperature logs, etc.) per manufacturer instructions and organizational policy.
  • Cross-trains and provides coverage for other laboratory functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
