About The Position

This position performs clinical sample processing, archiving, and sample management. It involves performing routine and/or special assays on blood, body fluids, and human brain tissue. There is an opportunity available in the laboratory of Dr. Randall Bateman, which investigates the causes, future diagnosis, and treatments of Alzheimer’s disease. This role utilizes a wide variety of assays and techniques, from basic applications like quantitative measurement of stable-isotope labeled peptides to clinical translational studies in diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease. Duties include sample preparation, sample running, and Mass spectrometry for projects run by or in collaboration with the Bateman Lab/SILQ Center.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with research studies, experiments, and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and setup and maintenance of equipment.
  • Performs routine assays according to laboratory standard operating procedures; may perform special assays with supervision by a senior scientist or a staff scientist.
  • Recognizes problem situations and participates in problem solving; informs supervisor of unusual situations and requests technical assistance.
  • May assist with validation of new assays; compiles data for supervisory review; utilizes database, spreadsheet and word processing programs.
  • Complies with all regulatory and client requirements for testing and documentation.
  • Demonstrates a general understanding of assay methods and clinical relevance; participates in relevant continuing education.
  • Assists supervisor with other duties and special projects as needed.
