About The Position

Pacific Cancer Care (PCC) is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) to perform high‑quality laboratory testing that supports accurate diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing monitoring for oncology patients in our new Medical Oncology location in Los Gatos. This role requires strong technical proficiency, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license – Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (CLS, Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science) – Required
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience – Required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with analyzer operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting preferred, including the Horiba ABX Pentra XL 80.
  • Experience with QC/QA processes and the ability to recognize and appropriately respond to abnormal or critical laboratory findings.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to interpret results, troubleshoot instrumentation issues, and apply theoretical knowledge to practice.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with clinical teams across PCC locations.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention standards and relevant local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to learn new procedures, adapt to evolving laboratory technologies, and maintain current knowledge in assigned specialty areas.
  • Experience in Medical Oncology, Hematology, or other high‑acuity outpatient settings.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, patient safety, and high‑quality laboratory practice, with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre‑analytical, analytical, and post‑analytical procedures in Hematology, Chemistry, and Clinical Immunoassays.
  • Conduct laboratory tests of varying complexity using standardized procedures to support diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of disease.
  • Perform venipuncture and collect blood specimens independently for all required laboratory testing.
  • Generate accurate, clinically relevant laboratory data and validate results for accuracy, quality, and conformity to specifications.
  • Apply appropriate control measures for abnormal results and notify the appropriate personnel per protocol.
  • Interpret laboratory results and escalate critical or unexpected findings.
  • Calibrate assays, perform routine maintenance, and document all preventative maintenance activities.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments (Horiba ABX Pentra XL 80).
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and report instrument malfunctions to senior staff.
  • Maintain supply inventory and ensure adequate materials for uninterrupted operations.
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and test results in computer‑based systems.
  • Adhere to all safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements (state and federal).
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of assigned specialty areas and adapt to new technical developments.
  • Participate in QC/QA activities and support internal audits and regulatory readiness.
  • Collaborate with the on‑site clinical team and other PCC laboratory locations to ensure timely result reporting and support efficient oncology workflows.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or laboratory leadership.
