About The Position

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, located in Jamaica Plain, Boston, is a 171-bed community teaching hospital and a proud member of Mass General Brigham. This role is responsible for the daily operation of the lab, including staffing, workflow, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. The position provides daily management and strategic direction for the laboratories, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies such as FACT, JC, OSHA, and CLIA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Sciences required.
  • ASCP Certified Medical Technologist [MLT, MT, MLA, Histologists] required
  • Lab experience: 5–7 years required.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a hospital-based CLIA laboratory: 3–5 years required.
  • Detailed knowledge of all regulatory requirements, including FACT, Joint Commission, and CLIA.
  • Expert knowledge of laboratory health and safety protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • BB(ASCP) preferred
  • Experience as a Safety Officer preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains QA systems to ensure a high level of performance and effective remedial actions to address deviations from performance specifications.
  • Assigns, monitors, and supervises work to ensure compliance with laboratory SOPs and applicable federal, state, and regulatory agencies' requirements, including health/safety and patient confidentiality.
  • Ensures the laboratory is prepared for all regulatory reviews and inspections including Joint Commission and FACT.
  • Oversees coordination of clinical trials with principal investigators, study coordinators, quality assurance and compliance.
  • Conducts interviews and recommends candidates for hiring in accordance with departmental policies to ensure adequate staffing for the laboratory.
  • Responsible for staff training and education including required department training (safety, infection control, compliance).
  • Serves as the laboratory safety officer, overseeing laboratory safety practices and ensuring compliance with applicable health, safety, and regulatory requirements. Monitors safety protocols, coordinates safety training, and addresses safety concerns to maintain a safe working environment for laboratory staff.
