About The Position

Freenome is seeking a dependable, flexible, detail-oriented, and team-focused Clinical Laboratory Associate I to support its Clinical Laboratory Analytical team. The role focuses on sample processing, equipment maintenance, quality, and efficient laboratory workflows, contributing to Freenome’s work in early cancer detection. The position reports to the Supervisor, Analytical Laboratory. The role follows one of two Monday–Friday schedules: 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m., subject to change based on business needs. Onboarding for the later shift takes place on the earlier schedule and may last up to two months. Periodic extended hours and weekend rotations may be required for approximately six months. Contractors may be hired through a third-party provider and are considered contingent workers.

Requirements

Zero to one years of work experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
Ability to prioritize tasks with a strong emphasis on quality.

Flexibility to accommodate variable shift start times based on operational needs.

High-sample-volume laboratory experience.
Experience working with automated equipment or systems.
Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations.

Responsibilities

Perform equipment maintenance according to laboratory SOPs for equipment including centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, pipettors, microplate readers, NovaSeq units, Agilent Bravo units, Hamilton units, and work cells.
Create sample batches, print labels, and label tubes and plates.
Maintain sufficient laboratory inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
Assist CLSs with reagent preparation and aliquoting, sample testing, and QC and QA functions.
Participate in projects under CLS or supervisor supervision while maintaining quality and efficient daily workflows; participate in cross-departmental projects.
Assist with training existing laboratory personnel in new procedures and training new personnel.
Assist with internal audits and inspection preparation as needed.
Set up the Hamilton and assist with its automated procedures.
Set up the work cell and assist with its automated procedures.
Ensure laboratory equipment calibration is scheduled and performed on time.
Report test-quality or safety concerns to the supervisor or safety officer.
Work with CLSs and the Accessioning Team to provide ongoing support to the Service Department.
Check, monitor, and record temperatures; perform root-cause analysis of deviations; and implement a resolution or initiate a service request as necessary.
Write and revise SOPs as needed.
Organize and maintain laboratory, equipment, personnel, and training documents.
Identify process-improvement opportunities and report them to laboratory management.
Provide guidance to new Clinical Laboratory Associates.
