About The Position

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency
  • 6 Months experience as a phlebotomist or Completion of a one semester course in phlebotomy preferred or Hospital experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Follows laboratory procedure for specimen collection, patient identification, and labeling as appropriate for the age of the patient.
  • Follows laboratory procedures for handling and processing specimens in a manner that is appropriate and follows safety guidelines.
  • Follows laboratory procedures for handling unacceptable specimens.
  • Follows established laboratory test procedures.
  • Performs procedures in other areas of the Laboratory as required by hospital entity.
  • Reports and evaluates test results.
  • Facilitates workflow process.
  • Helps other hospitals and laboratory coworkers to provide timely patient care.
  • Processes specimens.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform specimen processing protocols.
  • Participates in orientation and training of students, volunteers, new employees, and observers.
  • Maintains commitment to profession by attending continuing education sessions (e.g., Web seminars, ASCP seminars, Tarleton and Lab sponsored seminars by industry).
  • Follows quality control guidelines.
  • Performs quality control and equipment maintenance.
  • Incorporates safety/infection control measures into work practices.
