The Clinical Laboratory Assistant performs minor laboratory procedures accurately, precisely, and efficiently under minimal supervision, including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and immunology. They also perform phlebotomy through venous and capillary puncture following established procedures in accordance with age-specific considerations of patients. The role involves receiving and collecting urine specimens to perform all routine tests, preparing specimens for all procedures/tests, and maintaining supplies inventory by communicating needs to the supervisor. Additionally, they report varying in-house test results and all abnormal findings to clinical staff, and comply with all policies and OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness, and infection control. This role requires practicing sterile technique, preventing cross-contamination, handling blood and body fluids, and dealing with infectious patients, while following general safety procedures and utilizing PPE appropriately.
