The Clinical Laboratory Assistant performs minor laboratory procedures accurately, precisely, and efficiently under minimal supervision, including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and immunology. This role also involves phlebotomy through venous and capillary puncture, following established procedures and age-specific considerations. The assistant collects and processes patient blood and nonblood specimens, assists with specimen preparation, receipt, and transport, and performs patient registration. Additionally, they provide phone support, maintain competency with laboratory information systems, train new team members, and receive lab orders from providers. The position requires maintaining knowledge of specimen collection devices, equipment, and supplies, ensuring a clean and organized workspace, and practicing sterile techniques to prevent cross-contamination. The role involves handling blood and body fluids, dealing with infectious patients, and complying with safety, cleanliness, and infection control policies, including OSHA regulations and the appropriate use of PPE.
