About The Position

Under the supervision and delegation of the Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), performs phlebotomy and routine waived and moderately complex laboratory tests. A clinical laboratory assistant plays a crucial role in the healthcare industry by supporting laboratory operations and assisting medical professionals in conducting various diagnostic tests. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Appropriate experience or training to be able to perform phlebotomy.
  • Basis Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Computer literacy required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with an electronic medical record helpful.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine waived plus moderately complex tests in Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Serology, Microbiology, and Immunochemistry as ordered by licensed independent practitioners.
  • Properly and safely operates all standard laboratory equipment and some specialized equipment.
  • Performs calibrations of instruments as needed.
  • Assists in the maintenance of equipment and daily temperature monitoring/documentation.
  • Plots all daily quality control data; completes all monthly reporting forms and submits as appropriate/required.
  • Reviews quality control data and ensures quality control criteria are met before reports are issued.
  • Troubleshoots and problem solves when quality control data is not acceptable.
  • Keeps laboratory Supervisor informed of issue and actions taken.
  • Documents appropriately as required.
  • Reviews and releases results and files laboratory reports as appropriate.
  • Assists in the evaluation of new or modified testing techniques or methods.
  • Assist in training and orientation of new employees.
  • Assists in restocking of work areas and maintenance of inventory.
  • Alerts Lab Supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Assumes responsibility for terminal cleanup of own work area at end of shift/day.
  • Maintains an awareness of all rules and regulations that affect the delivery of laboratory services or laboratory practice.
  • Advises Laboratory Supervisor if policies or procedures require updating.
  • Performs phlebotomy as needed after properly identifying the patient and tests to be performed.
  • Properly handles and labels all specimens.
  • Processes specimens to be sent to outside labs.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by Laboratory Supervisor.
