About The Position

This is a PART-TIME OPENING for current UMC employees only. The position involves assisting in the laboratory, including drawing blood from patients, ensuring patient comfort and safety post-venipuncture, performing clerical duties, looking up patient information on the computer, and other related tasks. The role may also include performing waived complexity testing.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school
  • Six (6) months of experience in a clinical setting
  • Must obtain valid State of Nevada license as a Laboratory Assistant within seven (7) months of employment
  • Recent documented experience in Phlebotomy or Clinical Lab Assistant
  • Recent documented UMC Pathology Internship
  • Knowledge of infection control principles and practices
  • Knowledge of proper disposal of bio-hazardous wastes
  • Knowledge of anatomy and location of veins
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and proper specimen processing procedures
  • Knowledge of department and hospital safety practice and procedures
  • Knowledge of patient rights
  • Knowledge of infection control policies and practices
  • Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures
  • Skill in phlebotomy
  • Skill in applying procedures for emergency situations
  • Skill in applying customer service principles
  • Skill in problem solving
  • Skill in critical thinking
  • Knowledge of specimen requirements
  • Skill in using a computer and a variety of software applications
  • Skill in communicating effectively in oral and written forms
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties
  • Skill in efficient, effective and safe use of equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA)
