About The Position

Provides phlebotomy and basic laboratory testing for the patient population, as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. This is a non-exempt position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Current BLS certificate.
  • Adept at venipuncture, phlebotomy and finger sticks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Effective interpersonal skills and compassion.
  • Analyzing information, critical thinking, and problem solving.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of phlebotomy or clinical laboratory assistant training program or comparable on-the-job training is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a phlebotomist is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and/or prepares human samples for analysis in a timely, efficient manner.
  • Stocks laboratory supplies in the laboratory and on the nursing units.
  • Transports specimens to laboratory testing facility.
  • Uses computer to log in patients samples, perform inquiries and print summaries.
  • Performs basic preventative maintenance, such as temperature checks.
  • Exhibits knowledge of basic development of patients.
  • Provides age specific data on patients.
  • Communicates with the family or significant other of the patients, when necessary.
  • Maintains the highest level of customer service via courtesy, compassion and positive communication.
  • Promotes the mission and vision of PAM Health within the work environment and the community.
  • Respects dignity and confidentiality by adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Works in a manner that promotes safety; wears clothing appropriate to the performance of the job.
  • Participates in OSHA required training.
  • Follows universal precautions as appropriate for position; complies with Employee Health requirements for continued employment.
  • Reports unsafe practices to management.
  • Knows own role in case of an emergency.
