About The Position

The Central Processing Area (CPA) encompasses specimen collection and receipt, specimen processing, specimen distribution, send out referral testing, and client services within the Department of Clinical Laboratories. Central Processing Areas are staffed 24 hours per day, Sunday through Saturday. The assistant manager (AM) is responsible for the daily operations of CPA and provides leadership within the area. This position works in concert with the manager to direct projects and implement the best practices. Duties include oversite of laboratory operations, CAP/CLIA compliance, QA, safety, timekeeping, and scheduling. The AM assists with Buckeye Performance (P3) evaluations, hiring/recruitment efforts, corrective action, budgeting, purchasing, and new equipment evaluation. Administrative duties also include, but not limited to, oversight and training of shift and training supervisors, systemwide standardization of processes (as applicable) and assistance with the ongoing work and development performed by supervisors. The AM works under the direction of the operations director, operations associate director, and lab manager as well as the clinical laboratory medical director and division directors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Health related Sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • American Society of Clinical Pathology Certification in Medical Technologist, Medical Lab Technician, Medical Lab Scientist or specialized certification.
  • 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with ASCP/AMT, MT or MLS Medical Board Certification is required.
  • Maintains certification status
  • Meets mandatory education and health surveillance requirements.
  • Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required meeting essential job functions.
