About The Position

This position serves as a laboratory technician generalist, working towards implementing departmental goals of standardization, realignment, and maintaining 100% proficiency in CAP, CLIA, AHCA, CMS, and TJC accreditations. The role has responsibility for technically performing the full range of clinical laboratory procedures (as licensed) including Chemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology (Blood Bank), Serology, and Microbiology. Additionally, the technician performs Phlebotomy and Arterial Blood Gas collections. The position involves performing a variety of laboratory tests, many of which are complex, requiring numerous steps, techniques, and professional judgment. The professional application of medical technology principles, theories, and techniques are used to produce consistently reliable test results that aid physicians in patient diagnosis and treatment. This role also involves training other personnel, providing input in job evaluations, and assisting the laboratory administrative director with general lab duties such as validation, quality control, and nursing and physician support.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology or meets the educational requirements as outlined in Florida Licensure Administrative rule 64B3-5.004 for a laboratory technician.
  • State of Florida licensed as a clinical laboratory technician in any or all of the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Serology, Immunohematology and Microbiology.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of full-time technical experience in licensed specialties to include test interpretation, quality control and instrument maintenance unless hired in a training position.
  • American Heart Association current BLS certification required.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to multi-task while working in a high volume work environment required.
  • Able to work effectively with team members, supervisors, patients and their families to accomplish team goals.
  • Ability to plan, organize and perform job associated tasks to completion.
  • Willing to adjust personal schedule to accommodate patient needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers and proficiency in the use of an electronic health record system required, CPSI/Evident preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to identify and implement appropriate patient communication strategies and overcome accessibility barriers, as required.
  • Ability to use Language Line or find certified interpreter for interpretation as needed.

  • Physical ability for minimal lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling up to (25) twenty-five pounds.

  • Color vision – ability to distinguish and identify different colors in order to read medical equipment.

Nice To Haves
