About The Position

Labcorp is seeking an entry level Clinical Lab Technician to join our team in San Diego, CA. This role involves identifying, prioritizing, and preparing clinical samples, ensuring their viability and integrity throughout the testing process. The technician will prepare and label tubes, prepare samples for testing, and identify any sample-related issues. Adherence to quality control guidelines is crucial for maintaining the integrity of laboratory specimens. Responsibilities also include maintaining inventory and organization of specimen samples in the freezer, accessioning samples, and entering data into the laboratory information system. The role involves assisting with coordinating documentation, monitoring and maintaining consumable inventory (reagents and supplies), and performing general laboratory, equipment, and benchtop clean-up. Additionally, the technician will prepare logs or other documents for routine testing or special assignments, provide assistance to licensed CLS personnel performing test protocols, and dispense pre-made and prequalified reagents/controls under direct supervision. Laboratory support in the daily maintenance and surface decontamination of general laboratory equipment is also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • Knowledge of general laboratory processes and medical terminology
  • Ability to maintain production and quality standards determined by the clinical laboratory
  • Able to work with whole blood or blood by-products and comply with safety policies and procedures outlined in laboratory procedures and safety training provided
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Able to perform repetitive tasks frequently as needed throughout the day
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • Current or prior Labcorp experience
  • 1 year or more of previous experience working in a clinical laboratory
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques highly desired

Responsibilities

  • Identify, prioritize, and prepare all clinical samples while ensuring viability and sample integrity throughout the test process
  • Prepares and label tubes according to established protocols
  • Prepare clinical samples for testing and identify sample related issues
  • Adhere to quality control guidelines to ensure integrity of laboratory specimens
  • Maintains inventory and organization of specimen samples in the freezer
  • Accession samples and enter data into the laboratory information system
  • Assist coordinating documentation
  • Monitor and maintain consumable inventory including reagents and supplies for each of the laboratory work stations.
  • Performs general laboratory, equipment, and benchtop clean-up
  • Prepare logs or other documents for routine testing or special assignments
  • Provide assistance to licensed CLS personnel who are performing test protocols using established procedures
  • Under the direct supervision of a licensed CLS, dispense pre-made and prequalified reagents/controls using a pre-programmed fixed volume measuring devices
  • Provide laboratory support in the daily maintenance and surface decontamination of general laboratory equipment
