About The Position

The Clinical Lab Technician II works in the Department of Pathology & Histology. The role accepts and processes tissue specimens using automated equipment or by hand, embeds, cuts, and stains tissue blocks, and covers and labels histological slides. The technician performs special stains according to experience and assignment, maintains accurate identification and running records of accessions, inspects working equipment daily, prepares solutions, and helps maintain supply inventory. The role may also orient and train new employees when appropriate.

Requirements

New York State license as a Medical Lab Technician.
High school diploma or GED.
Associate degree in Science or Medical Technology.
Computer literacy.

Some laboratory experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees, interacting professionally, courteously, and appropriately and supporting a positive public perception of BronxCare Health System.
Participate in departmental Performance/Quality Improvement activities, including data collection and analysis, implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities, and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement teams; follow the health system’s safety and security, incident and occurrence reporting, infection control, and patient and customer service policies.
Process tissue specimens using automated equipment or manually.
Embed, cut, and stain tissue blocks.
Cover and label histological slides.
Perform special stains according to experience and assignment.
Maintain exact identification and running records of all accessions.
Orient and train new employees when appropriate.
Inspect working equipment daily.
Prepare solutions.
Help maintain supply inventory.
