About The Position

This is a non-licensed position that assists the Clinical Laboratory Scientist by performing laboratory procedures within limits specified by California law. Duties include receiving and processing specimens, preparing sendouts, setting up microbiology cultures, performing instrument maintenance, and operating analyzers under the direction of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. The Clinical Lab Technician must be able to perform EKGs and phlebotomy and hold at least CPT I certification. This position is part-time, with 24 weekly hours and varied shifts. The schedule includes 8-hour shifts on variable days and every other weekend. It is a limited-term (fixed-term), non-exempt position at Sutter Eden Medical Center. The position offers benefits and is union-represented. The pay range is $39.04 to $48.73 per hour; actual starting pay may vary based on factors including experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs.

Requirements

Associate degree in science or equivalent experience in lieu of the degree or diploma requirement.
CPT I (Certified Phlebotomy Technician I) certification at minimum; CPT II certification is also listed.
Ability to perform EKGs and phlebotomy.
Knowledge of a Laboratory Information System.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or biochemistry.
Two years of work experience in a clinical or commercial laboratory, including six months of experience as a certified phlebotomist (CPT I).
Prior work experience as a laboratory technician.
