Day - 08 Hour (United States of America) This role will support the following areas: Coagulation, Special Coagulation, Urinalysis, and STAT Lab. This is a Stanford Health Care job. A Brief Overview "Supervises the work of laboratory personnel engaged in performing routine and specialized technical procedures, including planning day to day laboratory work activities, evaluating work performed and handling procedural technical and non-technical laboratory problems. Under the direction of the Laboratory Directors and the Laboratory Manager, investigates, writes, and implements technical procedures and policies relative to the specific laboratory. Establishes efficient and effective workflow for these areas. Identifies and resolves technical issues. Establishes and monitors Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs to meet Joint Commission, CAP, state and federal requirements. Establishes and maintains compliance with all applicable health and safety policies (Joint Commission, CAP, state, federal, and SHC). Assigns work schedules for staff assigned to these laboratories. Collaborates with other supervisors and staff in identifying, planning, and implementing performance improvement projects. Functions as technical staff, as needed." Locations Stanford Health Care

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university
  • Academic requirements must be in compliance with CLIA regulations. A baccalaureate degree in an accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics and successful completion of one year MLS training program preferred.
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
  • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and interpret results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop financial budgets and manage expenses.
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop tactical plans, set priorities and adapt to priority changes
  • Ability to solve technical and non-technical problems and identify solutions.

  • Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes.
  • Skill in solving technical and non-technical probelms
  • CLS . or PA (ASCP) – Pathologist Assistant Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology

Responsibilities

  • Supervises laboratory personnel engaged in performing routine and specialized technical procedures.
  • Plans the daily lab operations, evaluates work performed, assists in troubleshooting and provides direction in handling procedural and technical problems.
  • Develops appropriate work schedules for employees and plans daily work assignments in order to maintain adequate staffing, minimize overtime, and meet customer service needs.
  • Under the guidance of the section Medical director, develops and implements department specific processes/procedures and quality control programs to ensure reliability of testing procedures, proper function of laboratory equipment, and compliance to safety/health and state/federal/licensing regulations.
  • Ensures section compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines (CAP, JCAHO,state, federal and SHC).
  • Collaborates with section Medical Director and Manager to develop and implement policies/procedures and quality measures to provide uninterrupted laboratory services
  • Oversees the validation and implementation of of new laboratory assays and equipment.
  • Monitors and evaluates equipment, systems and supplies to ensure operational efficiency, reliability of results and adequate inventory.
  • Performs all human resource management responsibilities, with support from operations manager, such as conducting employee performance appraisals, transfers, interviews, hiring, onboarding, disciplining, and termination of employees.
  • Oversees training of staff and competency assessment. Develops training material and competency documents as needed.
  • Monitors and completes payroll to ensure accurate pay period statistics.
  • Prepares technical reports reflecting department process volume, testing results, analysis, trends, conclusions or recommendations for management and other hospital personnel.
  • Performs bench testing during staffing shortages to maintain expected patient care standards.
  • Ensures equipment maintenance is completed as scheduled and coordinates service requests.
  • Collaborates with Manager to determine capital equipment and staffing needs.
  • Oversees storage of documents, materials (blocks, slides), transcription and dictation, and legal and research activities, where applicable.
  • Reviews workload statistics and KPIs to ensure quality targets are met.
  • Completes QA reports and addresses SAFE/iCARE events.
  • Leads or participates in Quality Improvement projects.
  • Responsible for QA and QC, including review of testing results to ensure accuracy and precision.
  • Manages inventory.
  • Responsible for reconciling labor and supply variances with manager.
  • Responsible for reviewing and staying within budget.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assures PA teaching duties and requirements for Gross Room and Autopsy trainees (residents, fellows or medical students) are being met and documented appropriately.
  • Oversees preservation of tissue for tissue library and preparation of tissue for teaching sessions as well as for presentations to families.
  • Meet the general supervisor requirements noted in the CAP specific checklists for each area.
