About The Position

Under the Supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Manager, the Clinical Lab Scientist independently performs clinical laboratory procedures accurately and precisely for use in immediate medical diagnosis by Student Health Center staff physicians. Assumes responsibilities and is accountable for direct and indirect patient care in all clinical laboratory functions, such as inventory management, cost management, quality control and quality assurance, customer service, etc.

Requirements

  • Highly proficient with veni-puncture and micro collection techniques.
  • Knowledge of current clinical laboratory regulatory procedures and ability to implement these procedures effectively.
  • Skills to maintain and supervise the proficiency training program.
  • Skills to evaluate statistical documentation relative to laboratory procedures and equipment.
  • Skills to monitor laboratory cost effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of current medical laboratory practices and procedures.
  • Skills to handle minor troubleshooting of equipment used in the laboratory.
  • Knowledge and experience in Basic clinical microbiology testing.
  • Knowledge of all the OSHA s and State laws and regulations on lab safety.
  • Knowledge of all State and CLIA 88 laws and regulations, and maintain high level of quality assurance work.
  • Knowledge and experience in clinic chemistry and automation procedures.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Typing ability and computer knowledge for data entry into LIS.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Graduation from college with a major in an appropriate scientific field.
  • Must possess current State of California Clinical Lab Science Licensure as a generalist.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years preferrably two or more years of CLS experience
