About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Clinical Lab Scientist to join our team in San Diego, CA. This role involves assisting the supervisor with daily operations, preparing reports, training new hires, and ensuring the quality of patient care through accurate and timely test results. The scientist will perform and monitor complex technical procedures, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation, prepare and test reagents, and maintain a safe work environment. The position requires a strong understanding of laboratory operations, proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office, excellent communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make decisions in a changing environment. A color vision screen is also required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • CA CLS license - Generalist
  • 2 years or more of experience as a Clinical Lab Scientist in Microbiology
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color vision screen

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years or more of experience as a CLS
  • Current or prior Labcorp experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist the supervisor with the day to day operations of the Department/Lab
  • Send daily, weekly and monthly productions reports to management
  • Assist with the training of new hires and the development of current employees
  • Keep supervisor informed of group progress, problems, employee performance and any significant factors affecting assigned responsibilities
  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to SOPs
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
