A Clinical Lab Scientist performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment. Runs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the patient, physician or registered nurse. Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment. Performs and determines accuracy of technical lab procedures. Maintains records of procedures performed, the patient results and the quality control required for all procedures performed. Maintains accurate and complete records of all quality control tests completed. Assures that all out-of-control procedures are followed and that there is documentation of remedial actions taken. Performs all preventive maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, as assigned. Reads and understands all procedure manuals on an annual basis. Collects biological specimens. Prepares and forwards biological specimens to appropriate reference laboratory according to departmental procedures.
