Under general supervision, performs and reports routine and special laboratory tests on clinical specimens to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients. This role involves performing analyses in various laboratory departments, including hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank, and microbiology, according to established performance standards. The position also includes performing venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick procedures on patients as requested by a physician, ensuring accuracy and care. Maintaining current and documented records for maintenance and quality control is essential, as is adhering to laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record-keeping. The role requires maintaining records for proficiency testing and following quality control policies, including documenting all quality control activities, calibrations, and maintenance. A key responsibility is identifying and addressing any issues that may affect test performance or reporting, either by correcting them or immediately notifying the appropriate supervisor or consultant. The Clinical Lab Scientist must also follow established corrective action policies and procedures when test systems deviate from acceptable performance levels and document all corrective actions taken.
