About The Position

Performs routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in the Microbiology department according to established policies and procedures, providing data used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Assesses test results for accuracy and performs routine scheduled preventive maintenance, calibration, and minor troubleshooting on laboratory instruments. The role may also involve blood specimen collection and training personnel and students. Independent judgment, professional education, and certification are required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science; alternative bachelor’s degrees are acceptable if the candidate completes ASCP or AMT CLS certification before employment.
• Successful completion of the ASCP or AMT Board of Certification CLS exam within the first year of employment when the degree is in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science.
• Maintain current certification according to the guidelines of the appropriate certifying agency.
• Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and communicate with patients and other health care professionals.
• Professionalism and the ability to perform skillfully in stressful situations.
• Sufficient academic, technical, and clinical skills and knowledge to evaluate, troubleshoot, research, and resolve day-to-day problems or assigned special projects.

• One to two years of experience is preferred; experience is not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex clinical laboratory tests according to established policies and procedures.
