Under general direction, the Clinical Lab Scientist Lead supervises assignments within the laboratory and acts as a resource to the laboratory. This role involves performing a full range of laboratory tests, from simple blood tests to more complex ones, and interpreting test reports to communicate findings to physicians. The lead is responsible for escalating unusual, critical, or abnormal results. Key duties include operating complex electronic equipment, computers, and precision instruments, as well as maintaining the accuracy of equipment and reagents through established preventive maintenance procedures. The position also requires assisting providers in choosing appropriate lab tests, performing and evaluating quality control procedures, and troubleshooting instruments. Additionally, the lead assists with the proper storage of hazardous materials, stays informed of new developments by reviewing current literature and attending meetings/seminars, and contributes to the lab's proficiency testing program. The individual must work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
