Perform clinical laboratory procedures. This role is responsible for ensuring duties of assigned shift or work area are completed, working with other staff to adjust workload as necessary. The position requires maintaining current knowledge of hospital and department policies and procedures, and performing job within the parameters of these policies. This includes following appropriate Blood and Body Fluid Precautions, complying with the laboratory quality control program, maintaining records, and adhering to turnaround time policies. The role involves using a computer for data entry and information retrieval, handling and processing lab specimens, and performing test procedures specific to the assigned section. Checking test results for validity, and being responsible for the maintenance, calibration, and assessing accuracy and reproducibility of instrumentation are key duties. The Clinical Lab Scientist II must keep equipment and work area clean and safe for use, participate in competency testing and training, and participate in Proficiency Testing (CAP surveys). Maintaining adequate stock of supplies in the work area is also required. The position is responsible for the operation of the assigned work area, directing and instructing others in the performance of laboratory procedures, and responsible for routine care and maintenance of equipment in the assigned work area or program (e.g., safety, POC). Participation in Quality Control Programs, Proficiency Testing Program, Competency Testing Program, and Training Program is expected. The role may also involve assisting in the development, review, and revision of procedures for testing and instrumentation.
