The Clinical Lab Scientist II performs waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, adhering to responsibilities outlined in CFR § 493.1425, § 493.1495, and § 493.1463. This role requires a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training, experience, and technical abilities. The scientist must follow laboratory procedures for specimen collection, processing, analysis, and reporting, and adhere to quality control policies, documenting any corrective actions. They must be capable of identifying and resolving issues that may affect test performance or escalating them to supervisors. The position involves performing a wide range of laboratory procedures using both manual and automated methods across various disciplines including Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology. Responsibilities also include performing and documenting instrument maintenance, reviewing patient results for accuracy before release, recognizing age-specific differences in expected results, and ensuring proficiency testing samples are handled correctly without prohibited collaboration. Additionally, the role may involve performing venipuncture or capillary puncture, assisting in policy and procedure development, adhering to safety and infection control protocols, and potentially serving as a Lead Tech in the absence of a supervisor. Responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC may also be assigned, along with other tasks as directed by management.
