About The Position

This position is located at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago, IL. The Clinical Lab Scientist II will work the NIGHT SHIFT from 10:30pm-7am, with rotating holidays and weekends. The hospital is situated in the vibrant West Town neighborhood of Chicago, offering a rich cultural experience and easy access to public transportation (Blue Line) and the airport, with free parking available. This role involves performing a wide range of laboratory tests and adhering to strict quality control and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years of hospital laboratory work experience required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).
  • Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.

Nice To Haves

  • ASCP certification, or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA.
  • Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  • Follow quality control policies and procedures, documenting corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct them or notify a supervisor.
  • Perform a variety of laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines.
  • Perform and document routine maintenance on instruments and equipment.
  • Review the accuracy of patient results before releasing or reporting.
  • Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
  • Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and prohibit collaboration before reporting results.
  • May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
  • May be assigned as Lead Tech in the absence of a supervisor, with responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
  • May be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC.
  • Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.
