About The Position

This position is located at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago, IL. The Clinical Lab Scientist II will work the NIGHT SHIFT from 10:30pm-7am, with rotating holidays and weekends. The hospital is situated in the vibrant West Town neighborhood of Chicago, offering a rich cultural experience and easy access to public transportation (Blue Line) and the airport, with free parking available. This role involves performing a wide range of laboratory tests and adhering to strict quality control and safety protocols.

Requirements

Minimum two years of hospital laboratory work experience required.
Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).
Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.

Nice To Haves

ASCP certification, or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA.
Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
Follow quality control policies and procedures, documenting corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct them or notify a supervisor.
Perform a variety of laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines.
Perform and document routine maintenance on instruments and equipment.
Review the accuracy of patient results before releasing or reporting.
Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and prohibit collaboration before reporting results.
May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups.
Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
Adhere to all department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
May be assigned as Lead Tech in the absence of a supervisor, with responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
May be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC.
Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.
