About The Position

This position is accountable for performing clinical laboratory testing, following all applicable policies and procedures. The Clinical Lab Scientist I independently performs moderate to highly complex clinical tests following the required procedures and policies. They also perform newly introduced tests to the laboratory that require defined skills. The role involves preparing and overseeing the preparation of reagents or media, as well as stock solutions, standards, and controls. Testing new reagents or controls and evaluating their usefulness based on standard criteria is also part of the responsibilities. Determining the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria in testing procedures, and determining calculated results utilizing testing data by means of manual or computerized procedures are key functions. Accurately entering results of testing, checking computer review reports to monitor accurate reporting of laboratory results, and adhering to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times of results are also required. Evaluating the acceptability of routine and complex analyses prior to releasing patient reports, and recognizing and taking appropriate action in response to critical values or unusual or unexpected results, and documenting action taken are essential. The role is responsible for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory equipment, and evaluating the results of instrument performance checks. Performing linearity, accuracy, and precision checks as required, and performing Quality Control and calibrations with the appropriate frequency and evaluating results to determine acceptability of result release are also part of the duties. Selecting and evaluating control materials using established criteria, and initiating a corrective action process whenever test systems do not perform according to the established criteria are crucial. Accurately performing and recording proficiency testing, and demonstrating the ability to detect and correct technical and operational problems are expected. Notifying the supervisor, and contacting manufacturer or field service support for additional assistance, if necessary, is also required. Ensuring accurate tracking and labeling of reagents and supplies, and consistently maintaining a safe and neat work area are important. Demonstrating effective two-way communication with staff, immediate manager, suppliers, internal and external customers, via meetings, written and verbal interactions, to create an informed positive environment is necessary. Actively participating in staff meetings, and in Quality Improvement meetings as assigned, and taking on additional business-related responsibilities or projects, as delegated by the Supervisor or Manager are also part of the role. This may include but not be limited to evaluation of new techniques and procedures in terms of personnel and requirements, method comparison, cost analysis, establishment of reference ranges, writing and revising technical procedures, and evaluation of productivity and key results measures. Responsible for following all required procedures, practices and related guidelines as provided in company policy and associated procedures for safety, environmental, and infection control. Collecting and disposing of waste in proper receptacles, and demonstrating a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality are essential. Providing direct and constant supervision to unlicensed staff as necessary and training staff in proper performance of both routine and complex procedures, and supporting Training Programs, where applicable, are also key responsibilities. Maintaining professional growth and development through continuing education, which must meet the education requirements for California state licensure, is required. Answering phones, transferring, or taking accurate messages, and complying with all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices are also part of the role. Required to use personal protective equipment. Other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Zero to three year’s direct experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Application (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Bachelor’s Degree Medical technology or other life or physical sciences from an accredited college or university.
  • Current State Clinical Laboratory Scientist license if necessary (e.g. California)
