The Clinical Lab Scientist I - Special Chemistry position is accountable for performing clinical laboratory testing, following all applicable policies and procedures. This role involves independently performing moderate to highly complex clinical tests, preparing reagents, testing new reagents, determining specimen acceptability, and calculating results. The position also requires monitoring computer review reports, adhering to analytical schedules, evaluating the acceptability of analyses, and responding to critical values or unusual results. Responsibilities extend to equipment maintenance, calibration, quality control, and initiating corrective actions when systems do not perform as expected. The role also includes accurate tracking and labeling of supplies, maintaining a safe work area, effective communication, participation in meetings, and taking on additional business-related responsibilities as delegated. Adherence to safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines is mandatory, along with proper waste disposal and maintaining confidentiality. The position may involve direct supervision and training of unlicensed staff, supporting training programs, and maintaining professional growth through continuing education to meet California state licensure requirements.
