About The Position

The Clinical Lab Assistant will maintain up-to-date laboratory manuals and be familiar with regulations of inspecting bodies, assisting with their implementation. They will complete assigned workloads within established turnaround times by organizing work according to test ordering status, assessing the urgency of a test, and selecting the order in which tasks are performed. This role involves preparing specimens for testing, verifying patient identification on samples and test requisitions, applying rules of specimen rejection, and arranging for recollection when necessary. The assistant will use and maintain equipment and instruments, perform and document maintenance and quality control, and prepare reagents. They will also calculate, report, and maintain records of test results, review critical values, and notify physicians or nurses. Additionally, the role includes performing phlebotomy and finger sticks as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a program for Clinical Lab Assistants or Medical Lab Technicians required.
  • Certification by a nationally recognized agency/board or equivalent experience required.

  • Reviews test results and immediately notifies, and documents notification of all critical values, the physician or nurse/PCA.
  • Performs phlebotomy and finger sticks as needed.
