About The Position

Conducts laboratory testing on clinical specimens or isolates for the purpose of disease diagnosis and treatment or surveillance. Ensures results are accurate and timely and that work is conducted under best laboratory practice and in compliance with CLIA regulations or other regulatory agency requirements as appropriate. Adheres to all laboratory safety and security policies. The primary responsibility of the position is to perform diagnostic testing for identification of agents of infectious diseases using primarily molecular methods and possibly conventional microbial methods. To meet CLIA regulations, an official transcript or a copy of an official transcript will be required prior to an offer of employment. (Applicants with degrees from foreign institutions must have the transcripts evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services http://www.naces.org/ and the applicant is responsible for all costs associated with that evaluation).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Microbiology, Clinical Lab Science, or Biology, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Demonstrate good teamwork and interpersonal skills, including relationship management within the unit and outside the immediate work unit.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require accuracy, attention to detail, including accurate record keeping.
  • Demonstrate working proficiency with Microsoft Office software, (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Six months to one year of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in molecular methods including real-time PCR and DNA sequencing.
  • Working experience in clinical laboratory testing.
  • Previous public health laboratory experience.
  • Certification by ASCP is highly desirable.
  • Graduate degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Microbiology or Public Health related field.
  • Working familiarity with QA/QC, lab safety and Windows based computer operations.
