About The Position
Ava Health is seeking Clinical Interns (Master’s Level) for practicum or internship placements in a mental health and substance use treatment setting. This is a hands-on counseling internship within a continuum of care (OP, IOP, PHP, Residential, Sub-Acute) where interns gain experience in group therapy, individual counseling, and multidisciplinary treatment. Ideal for students pursuing careers in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage & Family Therapy.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program (Counseling, Social Work, MFT, or related field)
- Eligible for Practicum or Internship placement
- Working toward licensure (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, etc.)
- Interest in mental health counseling, substance use treatment, or behavioral health
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
- Interest in group therapy and clinical skill development
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in behavioral health, human services, or case management
- Interest in addiction counseling or dual diagnosis treatment
- Availability during weekday daytime hours (PHP programming)
Responsibilities
- Co-facilitate and lead group therapy sessions (IOP & PHP)
- Provide individual counseling sessions (as appropriate)
- Participate in treatment team meetings and case consultation
- Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and medical staff
- Assist with treatment planning, progress notes, and documentation
- Support clients with coping skills, emotional regulation, and recovery
- Participate in CBT, DBT, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing-based programming
