The Clinical Extern are unregulated healthcare providers who will be working as part of interprofessional team and provide patient-centred care under the direct and/or indirect supervision of an identified Health Professional and who reports to the unit manager. The Clinical Extern will practice in a manner consistent with the organizational Mission, Vision and Values in alignment with the outlined job description, while considering the limitations in their ability to perform controlled acts as authorized by the professional colleges. The Clinical Externs will be hired on a contract part-time basis and the hours of work will be determined based on individual availability and unit needs which will include day/evening/night and weekend shifts. The Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES) – Charlton Campus PES is part of the general Emergency department at the Charlton Campus and provides exemplary mental health care for patients across the lifespan within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment. Services include assessment, diagnostic clarification, and coordination of outpatient follow-up and facilitation of admission when required. Acute Mental Health (9 Tower, 10 Tower Charlton Campus The Acute Mental Health Units provide mental health care to patients suffering from acute symptoms of mental disorders. Most patients are admitted from the Psychiatric Emergency Department. We have a complete interdisciplinary team available to meet the varied needs of our patients. Our goal is to assess and stabilize patients, and to reintegrate them back into the community at optimal levels of functioning. 9 and 10 Tower are comprised of two 30-bed units located at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton’s Charlton Campus.
