UPMC McKeesport’s White Oak office is currently hiring a fulltime Clinical Exercise Physiologist to work a daylight shift (7:30am – 4:00pm) – Monday thru Friday. Purpose: May work in the inpatient and/or outpatient settings. Proficient in EKG interpretation. Conducts non-invasive cardiology testing which may include stress testing, Holter monitoring, and the technical functions of the pacemaker clinic. Provides group and individual exercise therapy for patients with chronic disease. Applies EKG telemetry and accurately performs 12 lead EKGs. Performs initial assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, safely and effectively administers individual and group exercise therapies, evaluates progress, and documents outcomes on patients to improve functional capacity and to offset the detrimental effects of inactivity. Educate on disease states, recovery, smoking cessation, hypertension, diabetes, medication compliance, nutrition, lipid management and stress management. Maintains open communications with coworkers, physicians and other dept staff.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Exercise Physiology program with a Master's level preparation AND 300+ hours of experience
  • Graduate of an accredited Exercise Physiology program with a Bachelor's level preparation AND 5 years of experience AND one of the following lettered certifications: (a) American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) certification OR (b) American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP) OR (c) American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional Certification (CCRP)
  • Graduate of an accredited Exercise Physiology program with a Bachelor's level preparation AND 60 CEUs every three years AND 10 years of experience
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34

Nice To Haves

  • With the exception of number (2) above, where a specific certification is REQUIRED, one of the following certifications is also PREFERRED: Active membership and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) certification OR (b) American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP) OR (c) American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional Certification (CCRP).
  • Active membership in professional organization is PREFERRED.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares for and responds to emergencies in a manner consistent with department guidelines
  • Plays an active role in developing, implementing and gathering outcome data for the annual quality improvement initiative.
  • Conducts, organizes and participates in meetings, inservices and continuing education.
  • Demonstrates annual competencies as required by department
  • Participation in the Co-Worker Feedback program if asked
  • Promotes effective communication and demonstrates cooperation and teamwork within the department, the hospital and to other health care professionals.
  • Upon request by Manager, assists with staff development, orientation of new staff, special projects and community programs.
  • Utilization of clinical support staff (training, supervision and delegation) in a manner that both verbally and non-verbally promotes respect, confidence and a team atmosphere.
  • Developments and documents individualized patient treatment plan, accurate with respect to patient's age and medical history, its implementation and monitoring of progress and modifications as indicated.
  • Completes evaluation and assessment of patients with accurate and adequate documentation
  • Develops inpatient discharge plan and/or outpatient discharge plan with transition to either Phase III CPR or home/community fitness program. Inpatient plan includes recommendation to Phase II CPR as indicated. Outpatient CPRSs will see that progress toward goals at discharge is clearly and effectively communicated to patient and physician.
  • May conduct a variety of non-invasive cardiology testing including but not limited to 12 Lead EKGs, pacer clinics technical work, Holter monitoring hook ups and processing, and stress testing.
