About The Position

Under general direction, performs a variety of skilled repair and maintenance activities on sophisticated anesthesia, patient monitoring, and other patient-related equipment in critical care and surgery. This role involves in-depth troubleshooting and diagnostics on complex technology, assisting in clinical evaluations, and contributing to capital acquisition plans for operating rooms. The position also supports the development of educational lectures and equipment test protocols, monitors hazard alerts (ECRI, FDA), manages service contract support for critical care technology, and participates in an on-call rotation including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Biomedical or Clinical Engineering Sciences with two years of required experience OR Masters Degree in Biomedical or Clinical Engineering Sciences.
Three years of relatable experience in a hospital setting OR at least 5 years experience in anesthesia/biomedical instrumentation repair.
Work requires a knowledge of standards, regulations, and safety requirements (such as Joint Commission, FDA, ECRI, ASA, OSHA and DPH).
Work requires an extensive knowledge of biomedical, anesthesia and patient-care related instrumentation.
Work requires a detailed understanding of hemodynamic monitoring.
Work requires the ability to repair, maintain, test and calibrate a wide range of detailed biomedical, anesthesia and patient-care related instrumentation.
Work requires the ability to train employees in the proper repair, maintenance and calibration of a wide range of biomedical, anesthesia and patient-care related instrumentation.
Work requires the ability to maintain detailed records and prepare data into statistical reports.
Work requires the ability to interact with personal computers.
Work requires the ability to communicate effectively.
Work requires knowledge of electrical/electronic and medical terminology.

Nice To Haves

ACCE or AMMI Certification preferred.
Masters Degree in Biomedical or Clinical Engineering Sciences may be substituted for the required experience.

Responsibilities

Follows through independently and works with Biomedical Equipment Technicians to ensure task completion and high quality.
Troubleshoots critical care related instrumentation in critical care or surgical areas while in use.
Diagnoses the source of operational failure of patient-related equipment.
Determines if device operation is correct and provides recommendations for improved use.
Conducts complete assurance testing as required following general or specific written protocols for patient care or related instrumentation used in critical care and/or surgery.
Performs emergency and routine repairs of instrumentation used in critical care and/or surgery.
Applies a detailed understanding of schematic diagrams, block diagrams, theory of operation, and functional understanding of underlying physiological principles.
Participates in the initiation and completion of clinical evaluations of critical care and surgical instrumentation.
Assists in the specification and purchase of critical care and surgical instrumentation.
Maintains an active and up-to-date product file on instrumentation.
Interacts with manufacturer representatives and technical personnel regarding specific operating characteristics.
Assists the Manager of Clinical Engineering in the preparation of a capital acquisition program for critical care and surgical areas.
Collaborates with Directors of Clinical Engineering and Care Area Managers on the content and structure of in-service education lectures for clinicians.
Assists in the establishment of performance assurance procedures for patient-care instrumentation used in critical care and surgery.
Assists in the evaluation of care data as it pertains to patient safety and regulations.
Assists in the collection and monitoring of product hazard alerts and user experience notices from agencies such as ECRI, FDA, and Biomedical Safety Technology.
Works with the Manager and Assistant Manager to provide follow-up reports as required for the department's quality assurance program.
Attends various hospital committees as directed by the Manager.
Utilizes hospital's Values as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate the division's hospital mission.
Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
Performs other duties assigned or as necessary.
